INFORMATION AND FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Thanks for your interest in the WORLD POLICE AND FIRE GAMES, scheduled for PERTH, AUSTRAILIA, 2027.
The games are scheduled for March 12th -21st, 2027. Most of the information, including registration and what sports are offered can be found at:
But there is some additional information that TPAAA members might benefit from here:
Does the TPAAA provide any financial support for the games?
Why, yes! The TPAAA provides $450.00 per member athlete towards registration and travel and will also make an application on your behalf to the Police Services Board which supports our athletes with an additional $200.00 (pending Board Approval). In total, each athlete generally receives $650.00 towards competition in an international World Police and Fire Games!
Does the TPAAA provide any other support?
Yes again. The TPAAA funds an executive member, (usually the President) to attend the games and provide athlete support. In the past this has assisted our members with injuries and next of kin contact information. Additionally, the TPAAA hosts an Athlete Reception, generally within a few days of the opening ceremonies, to encourage ALL of our competing athletes to get together and enjoy the camaraderie of competition.
Our Vice President and double gold medalist at the World Police and Fire Games in Winnipeg will also be hosting a live web ex to for first timers to talk about his experiences, what to expect, answer questions and provide as much information as we have. Expect that in December ’26 or January ’27!
The TPAAA really does a lot! Is there anything else?
Yes. Traditionally the TPAAA will provide a T-shirt for athletes to compete in, or where at the opening ceremonies. For the Birmingham WPFG last year, the executive board stepped it up and provided an entire tracksuit, including jacket, pants, t-shirt and hat! The attire was so popular, the executive will be rolling out the same treatment for our Australia bound Athletes! We will also generally equip our athletes with challenge coins, pins, and general swag for representation and trading.
What if I get hurt competing?
While the TPAAA does carry liability insurance as an organization, we DO NOT insure any of our athletes directly for injury or disability.
Greenshield Coverage: Your Greenshield health benefits provide coverage while you are travelling but may NOT include all sports or athletic events.
The current contract (Active Members) includes Emergency Medical Care Injury & Illness of $1,000,000.00 lifetime emergency coverage per person. This coverage is WORLDWIDE subject to Government of Canada travel advisory warnings.
The coverage may also be subject to preexisting medical conditions, and activity limitations including:
“As a result of, in connection with or in any way associated with parachuting, hang gliding, bungee jumping, mountaineering, cave exploring, participation in professional sports or any Speed Contest by a Motorized Vehicle. For the purpose of this exclusion, “Speed Contest” means an activity of a competitive nature in which speed is a determining factor in the outcome of the event and “Motorized Vehicle” means any form of transportation which is propelled or driven by a motor and includes, but is not restricted to, an automobile, truck, motorcycle, moped, snowmobile or boat.”
We strongly encourage you to review your coverage and sport with Greenshield prior to travelling for competition to ensure there are no gaps in your coverage.
RETIRED MEMBERS: While you remain a TPAAA life member and are entitled to all the same TPAAA benefits as our active members, remember that the insurance benefits at the time you retire are the ones you will carry forward into retirement, and may not be the same as the coverage for active duty members under the current contract. PLEASE ENSURE you are familiar with your travel coverage and it’s potential limitations. Also, please note that as a retired TPS member, you would not be eligible for the Police Services Board stipend of $200.00 and your total amount would be $450.00.
Outside Insurance Coverage: In the case that you WOULD NOT be covered by Greenshield, the TPAAA strongly recommends purchasing stand alone competition insurance via a broker to ensure you are protected during competition.
Keep in mind that the Toronto Police Service may or may not consider this an injured on duty situation, as they will decide on a case by case basis.
Greenshield Travel Tips:
(519) 742-3556 is the WORLDWIDE EMERGENCY CONTACT NUMBER for GREENSHIELD. This number will also accept Collect Calls.
Greenshield recommends you call them immediately after being injured as they can contact the hospital or medical facility you will be attending and provide the required financial information and support. Obviously, in the case of a serious emergency, they advise getting the help first, and contact them as soon as possible.
Greenshield also recommends having your Ontario Health Card Number available when you call. You do not need the card, just the number.
HOW DO I ACTIVATE ALL OF THIS SUPPORT?
As a TPS member who had the wisdom to join the TPAAA, you’re entitled to it! On our end though, we need to line up sizes, purchase uniforms, and set aside budget. So, we ask that you register EARLY (the price will increase closer to the games) AND notify Nicole here at the TPAAA so we can put aside the resources we need to support you! Please let Nicole know by January 4th, 2027 AT THE VERY LATEST to ensure you are in the queue for a support package. If you are registering earlier, please advise Nicole as soon as you register!
We’re very proud of our Police Athletes and wish you the very best on the World stage in Perth!
