Metropol Diving Club

Just Add Water
By Sandy Robb

Metropol Underwater Club has been teaching members of the Toronto Police Service, their families and friends to scuba dive for over 40 years. If you want to know what it’s all about, why not drop by CO Bick College on a Tuesday evening and see for yourself.

As we play, laugh, swim and disappear under the surface of the pool in a cloud of bubbles, we’ve watched so many of you pause and gaze longingly through the window of the pool, wondering how you, too, can get in on the action.

When it comes down to it, scuba diving is pretty simple. If you can breathe in and out through your mouth you can scuba dive. Everything else is about learning to do it safely. Our course is about 6 or 7 weeks long, and consists of knowledge development and confined water (pool training), followed by a short exam. Then, after completing four open water dives you’ll become a PADI Open Water Diver, and with this prestigious certification card in hand, you’ll be ready to start exploring the vast and amazing underwater world you’ve just become part of. And, as a member of the AAA, you’ll receive a discounted price for your course. What are you waiting for?

Many of you see photos of tropical locations and decide that warm water diving is the only way to go. However, just because the water’s not azure and crystal clear, it doesn’t mean you can’t see some amazing sights closer to home. Lake Ontario is home to hundreds of shipwrecks, many of them wooden wrecks from the 1800’s, mostly intact, teeming with artifacts, and just like it says on our license plates - yours to discover. Do you really want to miss exploring some of the famous archeological sites that make up Ontario’s history?

For details on our next course, please check out our website at www.metropol.ca, or for specific information contact one of our two instructors: sandy@metropol.ca or edite@metropol.ca. We look forward to seeing you at our next course, our annual picnic, or on one of our club dives.

Still not sure whether you want to ‘get your feet wet’ by taking the whole course? Contact us to arrange a complimentary ‘Discover Scuba’ experience in the pool.

With over 70% of the earth’s surface covered in water, it’s time to find out what you’ve been missing!
